A rag rug is a versatile piece that looks equally as beautiful in a traditional, chintz-filled room as a spare, modern one. Crafted in Sweden for over 150 years, the weaving of rag rugs happened in individual homes, often during the long and dark Swedish winters. Mothers passed down the skills of preparing the loom, making the cloth strips, and weaving different patterns to their daughters. The fabrics used were old sheets, special party clothes, and favorite skirts and blouses. Every rug is utterly unique, a small slice of a family's history.
