Auld Scotland Scottish Throw

Is there anything more country than a classic wool tartan throw? Draped over your sofa or chair, spread on the ground at a picnic, tossed in the car for added warmth or wrapped around the base of your Christmas tree, you’ll find endless uses for these colorful, traditional blankets.

Lochcarron has been weaving quality tartan in the Scottish Boarders for over 60 years and is the world’s leading manufacturer of this timeless fabric.

Auld Scotland

Lochcarron produced this tartan in January 2008, around the anniversary of the National Bard, Robert Burns. Wishing to mark his 250th anniversary to be celebrated the following year, the name Auld Scotland was inspired by the modern version of his toast to the Haggis.

The colors used are reminiscent of those associated with the Ayrshire countryside. The pale Yellow which is strongly featured recognizes the importance of the barley used to create Scotland's National drink, whisky, traditionally used to toast the Haggis, which has itself a base of golden oats. Although Burns, being a Lowlander, would have been unlikely to wear tartan, had Auld Scotland been in existence, we feel sure he would have enjoyed wearing such a design, as would his 'drouthy cronies’ whilst perhaps gathering for a haggis supper.

Auld Scotland is quoted in the following final verse of the immortal toast.
