St. David's Cross Welsh Throw in Sloe

St. David's Cross is an historic pattern inspired by early 18th century Shaker weaves. Melin Tregwynt's version was developed at their mill in the 1980's and displays all the characteristics of the classic Welsh strongly reversible weaves.

The throws are edged with a simple hem so you can choose to display either side. Warm and easy to care for, they are made from high-quality 100% pure new wool.

Welsh double weave patterns or "tapestries" are an iconic Welsh design.  While the doublecloth structure is no longer exclusive to Wales, each Welsh mill developed their own patterns, which identified where the blanket was from.

The tradition of weaving in Wales goes right back to the Middle Ages.  The country's hills and lowland pastures make for great sheep country and fast running streams provided the power needed in the pre-industrial age. The industry declined greatly after World War I, with only a few mills surviving.  Melin Tregwynt, which sits along the Pembrokeshire coast in West Wales, is one of them.
