Irish Textured Wool Herringbone Throw - Autumn Wheat

This textured herringbone weave was created in the early 1960’s by Mourne Textile founder, Gerd Hay-Edie, and its unique variation in texture comes from the differing thicknesses of yarn, combined with occasional loops. This offset with the traditional zig-zag of the herringbone pattern creates a beautiful depth and richness to the fabric. The understated color palette is influenced by the woody Autumnal tones of the Mourne Mountains and is finished with a natural soft fringe.

Mourne Textiles is a third generation family run business, founded by Norwegian textile designer, Gerd Hay-Edie, in the foothills of the Mourne Mountains, County Down, Ireland.  The founder's iconic textile designs and pioneering weaving techniques became a staple of mid-century British design and collaborations with Robin Day, Hille and Conran established her lasting influence upon the world of weaving. Her daughter and son continue her tradition by working with established creatives such as Margaret Howell, Pinch, and Carl Hansen.

The stunning landscape of the Mourne Mountains is a constant inspiration for their designs, as the weavers continue to work from the original studio that was purpose-built by Gerd.  In fact, the internal layout of the mill has not been altered and many of the looms used today have stood in the workshop for more than five decades. In many ways, the mill is like a working museum.

The spectacular and varied panoramas which seem to ebb and flow with the changing seasons, continue to provide a never-ending source of beauty and inspiration for this heritage business.
