Vintage Iris Burncut Wood Box

The art of pyrography became popular in the United State in the late 19th century.  Pyrography literally means "fire writing" and objects were decorated by burning designs into their surface with a heated, pointed metal tool.  Leather, velvet, glass and wood are some of the materials used with this technique.
